Correcting a title

To receive a title that is correct, you must take the existing New Hampshire title to your local clerk’s office. There, an agent will prepare a new title application (form TDMV 23A).

You can fill out the application then mail it to the Division of Motor Vehicles. Or you can ask the clerk to submit it for you. The title application must accompany the prior title, as well as a $25.00 fee. You must also state the reason for the change.

To add or change ownership of a vehicle, be sure to follow the instructions for the selling or the transferring of a vehicle.

If you have to make a change to the mileage you have to get a statement from the person who originally made the error on the odometer reading. A notary does not need to witness the signature on the form.

How to Sell a Car in New Hampshire – Is There Sales Tax?

New Hampshire does not have sales tax on vehicle purchases. In fact, the state is one of five states that do not have a sales tax.

If you are a resident of New Hampshire, you won't need to pay sales tax on the purchase of your car.

But if you come from a neighboring state such as Maine or Vermont, you just can’t go to New Hampshire and just buy a vehicle. Because this is a popular method of avoiding sales tax payments, the agents are cracking down on this practice. Law enforcement considers this practice as tax evasion. You can face some serious consequences for doing this.

How to Sell a Car in New Hampshire – Selling a Car To A Buyer on a Budget

OK- so you have all of the paperwork you need and you are ready to sell your great car. But,  you want to appeal to that buyer who is on a budget. You can do this! Check out our tips below:

  1. Get a value on your car. You want to be ready for this budget-having buyer. So, check the Kelley Blue Book for an approximate value of your car.
  2. Know what works and what doesn't. If your car has an engine that can be heard over in Vermont and works harder than anyone this side of the Mississippi, tell that to the buyer! You want to tell your buyer on a budget the great parts about your car. That way, they will feel as if they are getting a great value on the car!
  3. Talk up the fuel efficiency. Anyone buying a car on a budget wants to know how many miles per gallon a car gets. So, if your car has great fuel efficiency, then let that budget buyer know it!

Size Matters and more!

  1. Talk up the size. Whatever size your car is, let the buyer know that it will benefit him or her. For example, if your car is an SUV, talk about all of the times you were able to haul lots of lumber or items in it, saving you time and money. If your car is smaller or a sedan of sorts, discuss how the car is fuel efficient and compact enough to maneuver well.
  2. Fix up those minor issues. For that vehicle buyer on a budget, they want to see a great looking car. So, if you can fix those minor dents, please do so. You don't want to come out of pocket for major repairs. But if you do, let the buyer know that. You want to be an honest seller at all times.
  3. Keep your car clean! The most obvious tip we can share when a budget buyer comes to look at your car is to keep it clean. Folks love clean cars. Once your buyer sees how gorgeous your car looks all shiny and such, they will think more about buying it!
