Let's take a closer look below at some of the top reported complaints about the 2019 Nissan Sentra problems:

  • 2019 Nissan Sentra Electrical system problems: the battery dies multiple times!

When you invest in a modern vehicle, you don't expect to deal with major battery issues at the early stages of the vehicle's lifetime.

However, this was not the case with the 2019 Nissan Sentra. A good number of complaints to larger platforms indicated that customers had to deal with battery dying multiple times within a short time.

While Nissan did not issue any recalls regarding problems with the 2019 central battery, it did recall many vehicles regarding problems with the backup camera, which we will discuss in detail in the following sections.

Customer complaints #1

I have a 2019 Nissan Sentra SV. I’ve only had the car for a week I’ve already had major problems. Car battery has died 2x, the car is not recognizing the key fob, power steering sensors light on , front radar crash detector light on.”

Customer complaints #2

“Every time i drive about 4 miles the front radar sensor gets disabled and displays a warning, this disabled the cruise and turns of automatic emergency braking, this is dangerous for me to drive with, i have taken the car to the dealership 3 times and its still happening, the dealership claims they fixed it but did not.”

  • 2019 Nissan Sentra visibility problems: illuminated dashboard reflects off the driver's window!

When the automaker works very hard to make the vehicle stylish, they sometimes miss major visibility issues.

While Nissan worked very hard making their 2019 Nissan Sentra model year very attractive, they didn't realize that the coating and the ultra-illuminated dashboard might reflect and affect the driver's visibility

Customer complaints #1

The matte-chrome accents on the vents and ultra-illuminated dash board reflect off the drivers windows and side mirror so much that it obstructs my view. It’s similar to a mirror reflection- and yes, I’ve dimmed the dash lights too. I’ve had to drive with the window DOWN in the RAIN in order to see on the highway when switching lanes.”

  • 2019 Nissan Sentra transmission problems: Disengaging transmission at lower speeds!

Nothing is worse than dealing with transmission problems in the middle of the traffic, especially with a modern vehicle like the 2019 Nissan Sentra.

A good number of complaints indicated that customers got involved in tough situations in the middle of the traffic where they were almost got hit by the oncoming traffic due to a problem with the transmission not engaging at the right time, especially when you're trying to move and drive at lower speeds between 5 and 10 miles per gallon.

Again, nice and remained quiet and did not recall any vehicle regarding transmission issues. However, in one of their bulletin services, they discussed issues related to the lack of power and possible hesitation in their vehicles related to the transmission.

Customer complaints #1

I was coasting towards the traffic light wanting to make a left hand turn when the light turned yellow and I was already past the point where I could back up. I had to hit the gas pedal to make the turn in a quick fashion and beat the oncoming traffic. The car just puttered along and I almost got hit by the oncoming traffic. It seems like the CVT transmission gets disengaged when the car is coasting at low speeds (5-10 mpg) and there is a loss of power to the wheels when I hit the gas pedal again. RPM is 3000 and the car still doesn’t move quickly enough to get out of that dangerous situation. The reason I believe that the transmission is the culprit is because when I stop at a light or stop sign and I barely come to a stop and I hit the gas pedal again, it makes a jerking motion, like the transmission didn’t downshift to 1st like it is supposed to. It gets stuck in the high gear and when I hit the gas pedal it downshifts hard. I have to stop a few feet away from the light and then release the brake a little in order for it to downshift to 1st.”

Customer complaints #2

this car makes me look like i drive like an old lady, people are getting upset, as it has no pick up power at all even though the rpm is past 3000. There is just no way out of a potential dangerous situation. The reason i think it is the transmission problem is because when shifting from 2nd to 3rd it losses power, like when the transmission is slipping.”

  • 2019 Nissan Sentra brakes problems: engine shut down, and brakes do not engage!

Although Nissan worked very hard to address all reported brakes problems in previous model years, there are still many complaints indicating some issues with the 2019 Nissan Sentra braking system.

Customers indicated that the vehicle would completely shut down and the brakes do not engage at the right time. This is a safety hazard situation that prevented many customers from continuing driving their 2019 Nissan Sentra.

Luckily, Nissan discussed the breaking issue in their recent service bulletin #NTB17-082b, and they mentioned that the evaporator leak might be the culprit causing the engine to stop working suddenly.

Customer complaints #1

I was driving a 2018 Sentra with 18,190 miles on it when this happened. I was driving on the downtown main street going at 10~20mph with frequent stops due to heavy traffic. The engine decided to shut down while I’m still driving, of which I’m so glad of the speed I was driving at that time, otherwise, it would be a lot worse than just honk from the cars behind, I could be in a fatal accident. Having to rush to the court, I had to drive an hour to the court with this known issue with lots of anxiety. I got the car exchanged at the rental car company after attending the court and was talking to an old lady who had five Sentra in her life. She was complaining about newer Sentra (after 2012 or so), she also mentioned her daughter’s Sentra wheel was locked while driving on the freeway and had to spend three thousand dollars to fix it. I am seriously playing safe to avoid Sentra at all costs.”

Customer complaints #2

faulty radar on front of my car caused speed control and emergency braking system to malfunction while in motion. This occurred sporadically since new and then constantly for last 3 months. I finally took the car in for troubleshooting last week and the radar unit on the front of the car was replaced. This fixed the problem but it should be brought to someones attention because of the safety hazards involved.”

Are there any recalls on the 2019 Nissan Sentra?

Surprisingly, even if the 2019 Nissan Sentra was not on the road for a long time, a recall was issued on November 11th 2019, and this recall affected vehicle cameras.

Nissan decided to recall 1,228,830 vehicles from different brands regarding an issue with the back camera. Nissan indicated that their 2019 Nissan Sentra vehicle has an option of turning on and off the back camera. Unfortunately, if drivers tried to turn it off, the camera might not appear the next time they want to use it.

Not having a backup camera in a modern vehicle like the 2019 Nissan Sentra can be critical and might raise safety hazards. Thus, Nissan recommended that all affected vehicles need to visit the nearest Nissan dealership and get the problem resolved to free of charge.

Very recent, he said, also issued another recall on March 3rd, 2021, regarding issues in the exterior lighting and the brake light switch. Nissan recalled vehicles from the 2019 model year and some vehicles from previous models years back to 2016. It indicated that there might be some contamination in the brake light switch, which could affect closing the brake lights' Circuit.

Thus, the 2019 Nissan Sentra's brake lights might not illuminate, which could cause some risks of crashes. Thus, Nissan also asked affected vehicles to visit the nearest dealership and get the problem resolved. Keep in mind that their remedy parts are not ready for this specific recall, and they will be available in fall 2021. This early recall is just to inform and educate current owners about the issue and give them heads up regarding visiting the nearest dealership in fall 2021.

It is very strange that despite the high number of reported complaints about major issues in the 2019 Nissan Sentra, his son did not issue any recall focusing on mentioned stuff. Instead, they just recalled vehicles affected with a backup camera.

At this point, it's too early to decide whether Nissan is going to ignore reported major problems. Maybe shortly they will consider any increase in the reported complaints about these major problems and as a result, he said might recall these vehicles. As of now, no sign or news is indicating that Nissan is thinking of recalling more vehicles.
